Legislative Action in Orthopaedics and Musculoskeletal Care in 2022 for New York!
This webinar will provide an overview of the legislative process in New York. Ms. Atkins will also review the legislative activity conducted during the 2022 legislative session pertinent to general and orthopaedic issues. The discussion will also touch upon the political climate and how that may potentially affect the direction taken on legislation impacting musculoskeletal care. Recommendations for how to get involved in the advocacy process will be provided. Questions will be entertained and answered throughout the session.

Describe how a bill becomes a law in New York State.
Identify recent changes in New York State law specific to the field of orthopaeidcs and describe the rational for those changes
Prepare for future legislation that will impact practice delivery

Babette Atkins
Babette Atkins is the President of MedSci Associates, LLC, a medical society management company and serves as the executive director and principal lobbyist to the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the New York Chapter American College of Surgeons. She has over 17 years of experience representing physicians, building and sustaining relationships with legislators and policymakers and negotiating legislative provisions that advance the mission of an organization.
She was the recipient of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons 2017 Executive Director of the Year Award and has lead the New York State Society of Orthopaedic Surgeons to receiving the AAOS State Society of the year award in 2017 and 2021.
Prior to her recent role, Atkins spent 8 years with the New York Chapter of the American College of Physicians where she served as the Director for Advocacy and Communications.
She is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Health from SUNY Albany School of Public Health. She lives in Delmar, New York with her husband Timothy and two children Lucille and London.
